Tuesday 21st February - Another Health Walk from the Sports Centre.  Today's theme was water, there was certainly plenty of it around.  There were seven of us today plus Gareth, there would have been eight but, as we left home, Sue stepped out into the rain and went back in again.
Into the Park again today, turning left at the entrance through Green Wood (sorry I called it Gravel Hole Wood last week) onto Cam Lane past the Ponderosa. i Is this hacienda lived in?  Every time we pass there are workmen brewing up in one of the huts and no sighs of life in the condominium.  Is it a project to create work for some people?
Through the trees we could hear the buzz of chainsaws, rangers and volunteers working way below, to the right we could see the Land Rovers through the leafless trees.  We walked into the field, down to the lake and round the lake.  We could just pick out the grebes but they seemed to be feeding and not courting.  Down the steps and heading south towards the cycle track, joining it at the ford and stepping stones which were submerged by the river, the water much higher than usual.

The rain had stopped so I fished my camera out, too late for the ford.  Could this soon be an oxbow lake? - photo 1.

More river - photo 5, and continuing along the track - photo 6, we turned up into Gravel Hole Wood, through the wood into Dog Kennel Wood up the hill and along the path past the rangers and volunteers working amongst the tree plantations - photo 7.  We carried on back to the Sports Centrefor our usual tea/coffee and biscuits back at the Sports Centre.
