Sunday 6th January 2008

A window in the weather provided good sunny weather this morning with a force 3 westerly wind.

Despite the early start six boats took to the water.

A member in a Kayak paddled off seaward and Peter & Adrian Johnson sailed round the lighthouse in their Lark 1257.  The other four had come to race.

I was helping Rebecca Sharples to do the OOD, thank you Rebecca.  We had the Rescue Boat on top of the slipway checked out and ready to launch if necessary.

Because it was cold we selected a short course to keep the contestants warm: As – Hs – Ts x 2 laps.

In the first race Ivan led all the way, still winning on handicap, but the battle for second place was keenly contested by Mel & Ian.  Bryan retired with gear failure.

1st – Ivan Haslam – Laser
2nd – Mel Vause & Di Hickman – Enterprise
3rd – Ian & Barbara Sharples – GP14
Bryan Sadler – Mirror – Retired.

The contestants decided that the same course would be ok for the second race but over 3 laps.

ivan
Ivan again surged into the lead but this time Mel & Di touched a race mark and after their 360 couldn’t catch Ian & Barbara.

1st – Ivan Haslam – Laser
2nd – Ian & Barbara Sharples – GP14
3rd – Mel Vause & Di Hickman – Enterprise

Overall Placings in the series so far:

Leading – Ivan Haslam – Laser – 1 ½ points

2nd – Ian & Barbara Sharples – GP14 – 5 points
3rd – Mel Vause & Di Hickman – Enterprise – 5 points
4th - Bryan Sadler – Mirror – 11 points

This Series we are going to race on both Saturdays and Sundays to allow more members to take part.  Depending on how it all works out we could have three trophies, Overall, Saturday & Sunday.
