The 2nd Frostbite Sunday

Sunday 16th October 2011 - Glasson Sailing Club

Not as nice as Saturday but at least the wind had gone round to the west, around F2, and it wasn't raining with the occasional flash of sunshine.

I, Michael Swarbrick, was OOD again and Ivan manned the Patrol Boat

The first race started fifteen minutes late and was over the course: Cs - Gs - Ap - Hs - Os, 3 and 2 laps. (H is the nearest unmarked Port Commission buoy, O is the mark opposite the OOD Box)

Five boats took part: Jack & Glen - Iso, John - Enterprise, Anthony & Kath - Yachting World Dayboat, Jeff & Val - Lune Pilot and Ian & Barbara - GP14.   The wind was gusting strongly and before the end of the race a heavy rain squall went through the course.

Anthony & Kath came second on handicap with Ian & Barbara third.

The second race started with all five boats surging away on the first lap.  Jessica had now taken Barbara's place crewing for Ian in the GP14 and Grant has joined John in the Enterprise.

The wind had freshened and there were even stronger gusts, which soon had Jack & Glen in difficulties and they eventually retired.

Even Big John & Grant couldn't stay upright, here they are bailing out but they then decided to retire.

Jeff & Val were doing well, improving all the time but their mainsheet track broke forcing them to retire also.

Anthony & Kath sailed well to win on handicap, Ian & Jessica finishing first but losing on handicap.  This photo is from earlier this autumn,  I had so many visitors in the OOD Box I didn't get to take many photos!  I even brought my tripod to get some good shots for the competition but ended up with none at all.
Fortunately Alan Round has kindly sent me some he took :
