2013 The Nateby Trophy & Frostbite Series Day 2

Sunday 6th October 2013 - Glasson Sailing Club

Please click on the photos to see a larger one. - to appear later hopefully

095s
Thanks to Ivan Haslam for being the OOD.  Thanks to Steve Speakman for manning the Patrol Boat and the photos, Dave for launching and recovering it and Michael Swarbrick for the report

Again the weather was interesting and the wind mostly southerly Force 2 gusting 4.  There were reports of sunshine over all the county but here it was overcast.  We did get the occasional flash of sunshine later, it was a pleasant afternoon.

Ivan set the course for the first race:  Ds - Fs - Bp - 18s - Ss      3 & 2 Laps, a departure from our usual courses, more like the ones of old.

030s 031s 037s 038s
Chris leading Duncan, Jack and Owen are well ahead.  You can just see Misty and Steve who sailed round the lighthouse in the first two photos.

051s
Michael, not launched at the start, is well behind.

044s                                             046s
Jack powering his way to winning the first race            Owen cruising into second place just ahead of Michael

Congratulations Jack on winning your first race at Glasson in the RS600.

061s
Studying the crack in the bottom of Chris' Mirror, it had happened just before he beached.

064s
Owen waiting for the start of the second race, the rest of us are hanging on to the last possible moment.

Ivan set a new course for the second race:  Ds - Ap - 18s - Ss       4 & 3 Laps - another interesting change

070s 076s 085s
Jack surging between Michael and Duncan who were together at the back.  Chris had retired rather than risk opening up the crack further.

002s
The wind increased for the second race and the unpredictable gusts proved difficult for Jack to handle.  I think Owen must have had difficulties too.

Michael won the second race with Jack only managing third.  You'll see from the points table that Jack and Michael finished with 11 points each.  When this happens the second race counts twice which made Michael the winner of the Nateby Trophy.  Owen, who had come second in both races, was just one point behind.

000s
Vice-President Jim Cruise presenting Michael with the Nateby Trophy.  Looks quite good, it's a paper cut-out, the actual trophy is still missing.

Michael is also leading the Frostbite Series, so far six boats have sailed in the series.

083s
Curlew having just returned from Piel is being taken out of the water and being laid up for the autumn/winter seasons

090s
Justin arriving back after a cruise up stream.  Roger had also sail his Leisure 17, Dreamcatcher, towards Lancaster.
