Trough of Bowland April 2011

Wednesday 6th April - At the end of November I was excited because we'd got Sue a good pair of walking boots.  Well she decided that the weren't right for her so we took them back and got me fitted out instead. Sue wishes to wait until the weather gets warmer before she ties any more on.  We got them from Whalley Warm and Dry .  The Owner, Jon Smith, can't go to too much trouble to ensure that you are fitted with the right gear, hence Sue being able to take hers back, providing she complied with the conditions - not to be worn outside etc.  I went for some trainers but after I'd described my requirements I was fitted out with flexible walking boots with the correct insoles - all set up to correctly align my legs and to protect my knees.  I will recommend anyone to go there for genuine service - contact.

We had lunch at the Cafe Marmalade, just across the road from the shop.  Then I suggested that we went home through the Trough of Bowland, a good suggestion as it turned out.  We passed clumps of Wood Anemones but by the time I'd decided to take a photograph we didn't see any.

First stop Dunsop Bridge for the conveniences.  There were daffodils all along the roadsides on our journey, it was a lovely spring day, warm enough for summer.

tobowlnd04s The river Dunsop was flowing quite quite fast with very brackish water.

tobowlnd07s This is the border stone which marks our return to Lancashire.  As a child I marveled that one wheel of the car was in Yorkshire and one in Lancashire, similarly later with my bicycle.  We had much smaller horizons than children today.

We drove on and stopped again just before leaving the Trough.  Looks like this old tree had recently blocked the road, pity.
