Health Walk - Thursday 16th February 2017

Today we had twenty-six walkers for a little windy but dry day.

Carmel was leading the main walk with Elizabeth M as back marker.

Suzie was leading the Elite walk and being assessed for her leader's certificate by Abi, Chorley Find your feet Health Walking Scheme Coordinator!

Carmel led us into the Pinetum and up to the bird feeder in the viewing area.  We carried on down Cardiac Hill, over the Wooden Bridge and turned right along the Cycle Track.

We soon turned up into Gravel Hole Wood, walking through the wood and Dog Kennel Wood.

Leaving Hawkes Clough behind we climbed up to the Ponderosa and Cam Lane.

We left Cam Lane struggling down the badly worn steps into Green Wood.  We climbed up again to the top of this section of the Park only to start down again.

we encountered the wettest point of the walk where we had to stride out to avoid most of the water which only rarely seems to dry out.

Entering the Field again at Hawks Clough we dropped down to the Lake and walked round the shore

and walking up Snake Hill back to the Barn

Everyone got back to the Barn.

There were eight Elite walkers today, including Abi who was 'shadowing Suzie'.  They walked alongside the Barn, through the gap in the Hall, where the Cafe is, through Sue Ryder car park along the Park side of the Hall, back up to the new building, into the Pinetum and down to the Wooden Bridge.  They crossed the bridge and walked along the valley to the Stone Bridge.

They crossed the Stone Bridge and walked up into Walkers Wood, leaving the wood to enter Cock Cabin Wood, walking round the Pond and back out onto the Cycle Track where the turned right and headed for the Cinder Path.

The walked through the Cinder Path and up Sue Ryder Drive back to the Barn.

Suzie earned her certificate!

The walks were enjoyed by all!

Abi was impressed by our 'short' walk saying it was longer than other short walks but we pointed out it is really a slower walk and varies according to the abilities of those walking, the length is of secondary consideration.
