Health Walk - Tuesday 1st May 2018

Photos by Carol W & Michael S - Please click on photos to see a larger one

Today we had fifty walkers and Sally, Peter H's little dog.

It was a lovely morning, a bit chilly at times. The trees are green again and spring is in full swing in the Park, the many varieties of green adding to the natural beauty of the Park

John W led the main walk with Margaret W back marking.  Colin C led the short option walk with Susan S back marking

John outlining his plans for the walk.  On the veranda you can just pick out the short option walkers waiting to start.

John took us down to the right and across to the Hall walking round the front, where we noticed Moira helping out with the residents of the Hall who appeared to be going on an outing, and down the drive to the Cinder Path.

We walked along the Cinder Path and out on to the Cycle Track to Cock Cabin Wood

We walked round the Pond and out on to the Cycle Track again to enter

Looking across the water we could see the kissing gate on Cam Lane which we would eventually go through but we didn't know that at this time

As we rounded the Lake to walk on the east side we spotted two Herons in the north east corner, the first time I've seen two Herons in the water.  There's no sign of the nest we spotted on the Island a couple of weeks ago?

Through the gate and up into Dog Kennel Wood.  You can see me, in shorts, struggling up into Dog Kennel Wood - Thanks to Carol I'm in many of the photographs for a change

The Elite walkers set off in the opposite direction down the side of the Visitors Centre, down Cardiac Hill, across the Wooden Bridge, up into Gravel Hole Wood, through Dog Kennel Wood into the Field, down the steps to the Lake where they spotted the Main Group and ducked down the Slope to avoid us coming in the opposite direction.

They crossed the Stone Bridge and walked up Bikers Hill to the top and dropped down into Walkers Wood emerging to walk up Snake Hill back to the Visitors Centre
