American gardens became fashionable in England towwards the end of the 18th Century.  

The American Garden at Cuerden contained:

A Pinetum - A notable collection of coniferous trees planted with an understory of rhododendrons, ferns and woodland perenials

Trees included in the collection of 1883: Noble Fir, Deodar, Coast Redwood,

Monkey Puzzle

and Japanese Red Cedar, some of them can be still be seen today.

The restoration of the gardens firstly involved clearing invasive scrub to reveal the original footpath circuit

Some replanting of historic conifers and rhododendrons found in the 19th century gardens has carried out as well as the creation of a viewing platform looking over the gardens
