Today we had forty-five walkers including one new one

It was a warm morning but overcast for a change

Sheila T led the main walk with Michael mentoring, Lawrence mid marker and Frankie back marker.   Susan S led the short option walk with Colin C back marking.

Sheila introduced herself and Frankie and completed her maiden speech impressively, it was her first walk as leader

She led us off down Snake hill but turning immediately left to approach Cuerden Hall which we rounded and walked down Cuerden Hall Drive to the Cinder Path

Leaving the Cinder Path we walked along the Cycle Track and entered Cock Cabin Wood, walking round the Pond and leaving the wood to enter Walkers Wood.

From Walkers Wood we went down Bikers Hill to cross the Stone Bridge into the Picnic area.  Crossing the Picnic Area we approached the Long Steps and out of the longish grass came

where we left Vic and Carmel who wanted to avoid the walk along the river which Sheila led us to.

Leaving the river at the Covert Pond we walked back along the Cycle Track to the Wooden Bridge which we crossed and climbed up Cardiac Hill to enter the Pinetum turning immediately right to climb up to the Visitors Centre where the Elite walkers were already settled in with their drinks and biscuits.

The Elite walkers had left the Visitors Centre and walked up through the Car Park to enter the Pinetum, walking up to the Viewing Platform before descending Cardiac Hill, crossing the Wooden Bridge and climbing up into Gravel Hole Wood.  They walked through Dog Kennel Wood to the Lake, had a look at the Herons and walked round the Lake to the Long Steps to walk along the bottom of the Dam to see the wild Orchids.  Crossing the Stone Bridge they climbed up Snake Hill back to the Visitors Centre
